I would describe pet rats as being
Cute, cuddly, and playful little darlings. My rats Dove and Jade are the best pets I have ever had. If the reason you're not getting a dog or cat is because you think it is too much work, then you shouldn't get a rat because they need the same exact treatment. You need to play with your rats for two hours a day. If can't give them this kind of treatment then it is unfair and your rats will grow depressed and aggresive. It is best to get more than one rat because when you are gone it will have a buddy to be with. I highly suggest keeping the same sexes together so that they do not breed. Rats will breed constantly. I got my pet rat from
I got my rats from Critter Cabana which is located in Newberg, OR. At first they were a little skittish. It takes a little while for them to warm up to you but they will in about three days or so. It is also a great idea to go to a special breeder or a society because rats are bred too much by pet shop owners and the rats often are sick or can have diseases.
Tips and Tricks
- My rats love Fiddlesticks and things to chew on. Things to chew on are essential. The teeth will grow too long and they might chew through the bottom of the cage if it is plastic. Rats can be trained and it is rather easy and fun for both you and your rats. My rats know several tricks including jump, stand, follow, find, and many, many others. Hope you enjoy your pet rats!
