Greetings and welcome from Lianne McLeod, your Mining Company Guide to Exotic Pets.  I have had an interest in exotic pets for as long as I can remember.  I am a non-practicing veterinarian (graduate of the Western College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan), and also have a B.Sc. in biology (Simon Fraser University).  Over the last few years I have developed an interest in the Internet as a means of education and sharing information.  Through my interest in unusual pets, my education and my experiences with my own exotic creature (a hedgehog named Genie) I will sort through the  information available on the Internet to provide a starting point for exploration of exotic pets.

My interest in exotic pets extends from basic care and husbandry to the medical and ethical aspects of keeping some of these species.  So, in addition to exploring the enjoyment and husbandry of a diverse range of exotic pets, I also hope to explore the issues around the keeping of non-domestic species.  We don't want to be too serious though, so along the way, we'll have some fun, too! The world of exotic pets is huge, and always growing as new species are being kept as pets, so I will try to cover as many species as I can.  Check back for new features and links each week, as well as the Exotic Pet of the Week.  To make this site work, however, I will need to know which species our readers want to hear about, and what concerns exotic pet fanciers would like to see addressed.  Keep in touch,  so I can make this site the best it can be!
