Toxicity of Fireflies

Never Feed Fireflies to Your Lizards or Other Reptiles and Amhibians

From , former About.com Guide

Fireflies (also known as lightning bugs) are wondrous insects - just make sure you never feed them to your pet reptiles. The chemicals that make them glow have been found to be quite toxic to some animals, especially to lizards. Most reported poisonings have been in bearded dragons, but there are also reports of toxicity to tree frogs. Avoid giving fireflies to lizards and all other reptiles and amphibians. Their larvae (sometimes called glow worms) should also be avoided.

It is also a good idea to make sure no fireflies could accidentally fly into the tanks or enclosures of your reptiles and amphibians, too.
