Question: What are the Signs or Symptoms of RHD
Answer: RHD (Rabbit Hemorhagic Disease) often appears to cause sudden death because the course is so quick (6-24 hours after onset of fever). Clinical signs and symptoms are often only noted in the end stages of the disease. Signs include
  • Fever (as high as 105 F or 40.5 C)
  • Depression
  • Loss of appetite
  • May appear reluctant to move
  • Neurological signs may be seen such as tremors, incoordination, paddling, abnormal head position or head tilt.
  • Foamy, bloody nasal discharge is sometimes seen. Bleeding may also occur from the mouth and rectum.
RHD is seen mainly in young adult and adult rabbits.
