Video - How to Turn a Rabbit Over In Your Arms

For When You Need to Have a Peek at Your Bunny's Belly

From Lianne McLeod, DVM, for About.com

Added on May 7 2008

This hold is tricky and I don't recommend it for routine use as most rabbits will be uncomfortable being held like this. However, there are times that you may need to have a look at a rabbit's underside, perhaps for grooming or to check the sex of a bunny. This maneuver requires a confident handler and it is very important to support your rabbit well at all time (particularly the hind end) to keep him from twisting or kicking. The rabbit in this video is pretty compliant, but many rabbits will feel very insecure and frightened being held like this -- so reserve this type of hold for when it is absolutely necessary. Also, this method is okay for smaller rabbits, but for a larger rabbit more support is needed (for example, sit down and turn your bunny over in your lap).
