There are a handful of housing options to consider when choosing a home for your pet rabbit. If you choose to house your pet rabbits outside, rabbit hutches are your best option.
What Are Rabbit Hutches?
Rabbit hutches are typically wood enclosures. Most consist of chicken wire or mesh metal on the sides and/or top and bottom of the cage to allow for adequate ventilation. If the bottom is also made of wire it allows the fecal matter to drop through the bottom.
Hutches are usually fully enclosed on one side of the cage to allow the rabbit to hide from sunlight, be protected from cold and wind, and just sleep. This is the side of the hutch to add straw and hay as bedding and warmth.
Hutches run between $150 and $300 depending on the size and features of the cage, but many owners choose to build a custom enclosure to suit their needs.
