Ecdysis

Definition: Shedding of the the outer layer of skin cells (as in reptiles and amphibians) or the the cuticle layer of the exoskeleton in arthropods (e.g. molting, as seen in hermit crabs, insects, spiders, etc.).
Pronunciation: EK-dih-sis
Also Known As: shedding, molting
Examples:
Problems with ecdysis are sometimes seen in snakes.
