Many exotic pet owners don't think they need to take their pets to a vet unless they get sick but the reality is many illnesses could be avoided if you took them in for routine check ups. If a disease process is caught before symptoms are noticed by you it can often times be treated much less expensively and with a better outcome for your pet.

But not just any vet will treat any pet. You need to find an exotics vet, one that has had extra training and has the equipment and knowledge to treat your specific kind of pet. Most vets are small animal vets who treat just dogs and cats, or large animal vets who treat farm animals like cows and horses. A selection of vets may see anything under the sun, and even fewer will treat only exotics. This list has exotics vets who will treat some exotics like rabbits and ferrets and others that will treat any and all exotics including reptiles, birds, and fish. If you don't see your Rhode Island exotics vet on this list send me an e-mail so that I can add them.
