Hamsters are popular gifts for children. They are small, quiet, and inexpensive, but often do not receive the proper care when given to a child. Consider your child's age and responsibility before giving them a furry commitment. Hamsters can be easily lost, therefore think about the type of enclosure, the ease of a child opening said enclosure, and the location of the cage, before buying the most colorful or attractive one at the store.
Pick a cage that can be easily cleaned by your child. Let them pick out the bedding (some great hamster beddings come in many fun colors), brand of food, some toys, and chew treats to help encourage responsible care.
2. Educate Your Child

Giving them a book to read before purchasing a hamster is better than going into the pet experience unprepared. Try creating a simple quiz on hamsters to give your child the confidence he or she needs to take care of their pet. This will give them a sense of responsibility and pride in their care for their hamster.
