Gerbils can make wonderful pets, but there seems to be a fair number of misconceptions about their care and behavior. Many older gerbil care books contain information that is false, so when looking for a good book about gerbils it is best to make sure you get a recently published book with up to date information. Unfortunately, there are not many books fitting this description.
By Donna Anastasi, this is a recent release and is garnering rave reviews for its accurate and up to date information about gerbils.
By Englebert Kotter and Ehrenfried Ehrenstein, this book comes highly recommended by the UK's National Gerbil Society. It is a complete reference to gerbils by an experienced keeper, and follows others in the Barron's series in covering a wide range of topics about gerbils such as care, breeding, colors, and understanding gerbil behavior.
By Betsy Sikora Siino, a prolific small pet care author, in the Owner's Guide to a Happy Healthy Pet series. This is a good book, and substantial at 128 pages in hardcover format. Decent, thorough information on caring for pet gerbils, though perhaps not as up to date as others, and lots of wonderful photos.
This book is only recommended if you have young children who are interested in gerbils, and only as an addition to a more thorough book like the first one listed. By Bradley Viner, the book is very basic and aimed at the young reader, and contains only vague advice on care. However, it is still informative and full of wonderful photography.
