Size
This hammock can be made any size you like. For the hammock demonstrated here, I cut two pieces of fleece 12 inches by 24 inches. The finished hammock is just 9 inches wide by 10 inches long (suitable for a rat or smaller pet; a larger one would be necessary for rats to pile in together, or for a ferret).
To make a different sized hammock here is a general guide to sizing your pieces (the exact size of the finished product will depend on seam allowances and may also be affected a bit by the thickness of your fabric). Decide how big you want your hammock, then cut 2 pieces of fabric as follows
Width: width of finished hammock plus 2-3 inches for seam allowances.
Length: double the length of the finished hammock, plus about 4 inches - more if you want more overlap at the entrance to the pouch.
Strips for Hanging Loops
You will also need to cut 4 strips of your chosen material for hanging loops. These can be to any length you wish. I cut mine from fleece, about 9 inches long by 1 inch wide (cut from fleece). These are doubled over to make a loop so the finished length of the loop will be less than half of the cut length.
