Definition of the ASPCA

Definition:

The first organization of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, the ASPCA is a humane group focused on preventing cruelty to animals in the United States. ASPCA stands for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It was founded in 1866 by Henry Bergh.

The ASPCA is also the first humane organization to be granted legal authority to investigate and make arrests for crimes against animals.

Their mission statement is "to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals throughout the United States."
