CD Review: Frogs of Summer

About the CD

About.com Rating 4

From , former About.com Guide

The Frogs of Summer is a bit hard to explain, really. It is a compilation of fun songs (most of which you'll likely recognize readily) covered and altered with a prominent frog theme. While there are some human voices on the album, most of the "singing" is made up of various frog croaks and noises, masterfully arranged to go with the music. The CD is produced by Guy Maeda and Robert Irving, though "leapin' records".

Comments

You probably realize from the description that this is a CD aimed at frog lovers rather than the serious music lover. That said, this is CD is really quite fun, and the music isn't bad. The songs are covers of other songs, of course, and there are human voices along with frogs "singing." I think frogs have beautiful voices and they are integrated into the songs surprisingly well - the frogs are not overwhelming; if anything, I'd like to have seen the frogs' voices used a bit more prominently. It is a somewhat eclectic group of songs, and I like some more than others, but overall is an easy CD to listen to and a great accompaniment to a summer road trip. The CD is fun and upbeat, and I just can't help but smile when I listen to it!

The Bottom Line

Silly but definitely fun. I'd recommend this CD to any frog fan!
