This ferret knows how to roll over, jump over a hand, spin in a circle and weave around its owners legs. With a little patience and a lot of positive reinforcement, ferrets can readily learn tricks and behaviors. Training like this is a great way to bond with your ferret as well as keep boredom at bay by providing mental stimulation. To train a ferret (or any animal) you'll need to find a treat or reward your ferret really likes. Break down the behavior or trick you want into small steps, and in the beginning give a reward for anything that is a step toward the behavior you want. Gradually you'll be able to start giving treats for more and more specific behavior until the ferret catches on to what you want him or her to do. You'll also want to give a cue so your ferret associates it with the behavior (verbal or other signal such as the hand rolling motion this owner uses to ask the ferret to roll over).
