Photo © Lianne McLeodI have been using this hammock with my pet rats for nearly a year now. I did have to repair one hanging strap by sewing the hanging hook back in place. I'm not sure whether a rat had chewed at the hanger or if it fell apart as I was away at the time, but that was months ago and there have not been any problems since. I recently bought a second hammock, as well as the similar but much larger Super Pet Fuzz-E-Floor, because I have been so happy with the product. The rats have chewed up other beds and hanging items, but happily leave all their hammocks alone. Any cage accessories that become worn out or torn should be discarded for safety reasons. However, my first hammock is still in good shape after nearly a year of every-other-week use!
Once a week I just swap out my hammocks to wash the used ones (one week my rats use two cozy hammocks and the next they get a Fuzz-E-Floor instead). I have put my hammocks through the washer and dryer several times now, with no apparent ill effects.
Potential Pitfalls
As with any hanging hammock or bed, the Cozy Hammock should be placed in such a way that long falls from the hammock are not likely to result. hammocks, especially smaller ones, should not be placed at the top of very tall cages where a long fall to the floor could occur, for example. An arrangement of multiple hammocks that prevents long falls is fine, though.
