My Homemade Pet Rat Cage - Custom Large Cage That is Easy to Build

The Base of the Homemade Rat Cage

I was lucky to find an underbed storage box that was the perfect size - big enough so my cage could just drop right into the container with not a whole lot of extra space. Make sure your container is large enough at the base as they often have sloping sides, and if your cage can't site properly right on the bottom it will be unsteady.

If you can't find an underbed storage box that work, you can construct a bottom out of a corrugated plastic material called Coroplast. Advice on finding and working with Coroplast can be found on the Guinea Pig Cages site.
