Vinyl J-channel can be found with the vinyl siding in the hardware store. It comes in slightly varied configurations - I found some that had a very narrow channel so it would clamp on to the top rim of the cage very tightly. The picture shows the J-channel in profile. I used the saw to cut it at 45 degree angles to meet at the corners of the top of the cage, but it turned out that it was quite brittle and hard to cut, so the cuts weren't perfect. Still, it covered any cut ends of the shelving and gave the top rim of the cage a finished look. It also clamps on tightly and stabilizes the front and back panel of the cage.
