A Tale of Three Shelter Rats

My Three Rats, Adopted from my Local SPCA

by Lianne McLeod, DVM

On June 1, 2007 I became proud mom to three young male rats adopted from my local SPCA shelter. Many people are surprised to find out that exotic pets are available at shelters, but exotic pets face many of the same difficulties as other pets, including situations when their owners can no longer care for them. If you are considering adopting an exotic pet, I urge you to check shelters as a possible option. You may just find your new best friend(s) there, and you may save a life in the process.
