Red footed tortoises reach an adult length of around 12 inches, and are fairly hardy under the proper conditions. They do not need to hibernate unlike tortoises from more temperate habitats, which can be an advantage in keeping them as hibernation and recovery can be a stressful time. They do need to be kept under more tropical conditions though, including warm temperatures, high humidity, and proper lighting.
