Poison Dart Frogs - Dendrobates spp.
Poison arrow or poison dart frogs are a group of frogs that are actually made up of a large number of different species. These small frogs show an amazing array of brilliant colors, but their care can be very demanding. They are called poison arrow frogs becasue their skin secretions are toxic (to varying degrees amongh the different species) and native tribes rub their skin secretions on the tips of arrows and darts for hunting. In captivity their secretions tend to lose at least some of their toxicity.
