Invasive Boas in Puerto Rico

By February 5, 2013

Follow me on:

Florida is not alone in the fight against invasive snakes.  Puerto Rico has found an established breeding population of boa constrictors on the island.  Despite the fact that these snakes are illegal to privately own, it is thought that this population originated from the pet trade.  Over 150 snakes have already been found and genetic testing shows they are all closely related, meaning they started from a small population of snakes and bred with each other.
