A herpetology grad student from Texas Tech has created a new way to identify native snakes in Texas using an app for iPhones.
Known as TX Snakes 1.1, the app allows you to search the over 250 counties in Texas using photos, such identifiable traits like a rattle and patterns to help identify snakes.
An app called OK Snakes is also available for snakes native to Oklahoma.
I think this is just the beginning of these kinds of apps. This will enable people everywhere to know whether or not they are looking at an invasive or native species and help to control environmental issues. Florida already has a similar app.
