One of the most confusing issues for new gecko owners it the type of substrate to use. Being a worrier myself, I know if I had geckos I'd be obsessively concerned about them ingesting their substrate and suffering an intestinal blockage. Some worrying is at least a bit justified as this is a risk, and as a result opinions on safety of various substrates and what to use can vary widely. The safest substrates are not really conducive to creating a natural (or even attractive) environment, but they have their advantages. There is no simple answer to the question of which substrate to choose for leopard geckos, but a quick rundown on the concerns associated with various substrates for leopard geckos is provided in "
The Substrate Debate."

THE BEST SUBSTRATE FOR
LEOPEARD GECKOS
I think tat sand is the best substrate for leoperd geckos. For 1 example u dont have 2 change it if ur leopard gecko(s) pee on it u dont have 2 change it. I find it is really help-ful. When-ever my leopard gecko goes 2 eat his food he usually gets some of the sand but I dont think its bad for him.
And that’s why I think SAND IS THE BEST!!!
SUBSTRATE FOR LEOPARD GECKOS
I would not usually recommend using any type of loose substrate for long periods of time as eating the substrate may harm the leopard gecko. Some use a substrate of newspapers as well as paper towels.
