How Did You Name Your Hermit Crabs?

Sunday January 4, 2009
In our continuing series on pet names, let's talk about names for hermit crabs. Our hermit crabs, like our rats, were names by our kids. We got them when one of the Harry Potter books was new, so two of them were given the names Harry Potter and Sirius Black. The other had some other Harry Potter-type name for a day or two, but then was renamed "Ringshark" after a team at the Karate Dojo some of my family members attend. Ringshark does tend to be a bit physical with others, so perhaps the name change worked well for her. There are quite a few great crab names in the hermit crab names list I started before, but I'm always interested in how people chose their names. Did you have names picked out before you got your hermit crabs? Or did you wait to see what your hermit crabs were like before settling on a name? Please share your hermit crabs' names by adding them to the comments section below. Feel free to share how you chose names too! I hope to compile all these names to update the master list of crab names, as well.

I just got my first hermit crab Thursday, May 14th, 2009. I picked one out with a lavender shell so I named her Lilly Lavender. I got her from a little shop in Colonial Beach, Va. and she loves to eat and climb. I gave her some lettuce in addition to her food that I bought and she ate every bit of it. I like watching her. I keep her on my kitchen counter.
