How Did You Name Your Lizards?

Sunday November 30, 2008
In our continuing series on pet names, let's talk about lizard names. There are quite a few great lizard names in the lizard names list I started before, but I'm always interested in how people chose their names. Did you have names picked out before you got your lizards? Or did you wait to see what your lizards were like before settling on a name? Please share your lizards' names by adding them to the comments section below. Feel free to note the type(s) of lizards you have, and how you chose names too! I hope to compile all these names to update the master list of lizard names, as well.

My kids have named several of our herps, and sometimes the names just “leap out” at us…

Green Iguana - Izod (the shirts with the little alligators)
Amelinated Corn Snake - Mushu
Snow Corn Snake - Mulan
Golden Gecko - Scaramanga (the villain from James Bond’s “The Man With The Golden Gun”)
Bibron’s Gecko - Mad Madame Mim (she was feisty, like the animated character of the same name)
Western Hognose Snake - Harley
Rosy Boa - Slinky (he always likes to go from hand to hand to hand…like a slinky)
Leopard Gecko - Lil’ Miss (from the live action movie where Robin Williams played an android)
Crocodile Gecko - Elton John (from Elton’s song, “Crocodile Rock”)
Chinese Fire Bellied Newt - Got Better (from the Monty Python “Holy Grail” movie, the scene where John Cleese accuses a woman of being a witch and turning him into a newt, then he says..um, I got better)
