Lucky Lizard...
Wednesday November 26, 2008
And dedicated firefighters! Just saw a news story about a lizard resuscitated by firefighters after his heat lamp fell and ignited some papers in his cage. After firefighters extinguished the fire in the tank, they found Rex, a Savannah monitor, limp and not breathing. While a firefighter held Rex, a paramedic cleared his airway and gave him oxygen through a special mask designed for domestic animals, and the lizard started breathing again. On the video accompanying the news item, Rex looks a little worse for the wear but is truly lucky to be alive. I wish him a speedy and full recovery, and am glad that the rescue workers were willing to go the extra mile to save a lizard!
