In our continuing series on pet names, let's talk about hamster names. There are quite a few great hamster names in the hamster names list I started before, but I'm always interested in how people chose their names. Did you have names picked out before you got your hamsters? Or did you wait to see what your hamsters were like before settling on a name? I adopted two Winter Whites hamsters and had one name planned “Squiggles” and the other is mostly white in color so I named her “Sugar”… I find that this breed of hamsters is the most friendly and I enjoy holding them as they allow! S.F.

I just got a dwarf hamster and i named her “Bella” I seen it in the Name list and I am a fan of the twilight series so i found the name perfect. At first I wasn’t going to name her Bella but while i was scanning through the other names they didn’t click as well as Bella

I had a really friendly + sweet grey hamster called Monty, but sadly he died 10th November (four days ago when I posted this)I chose it after my mum reeled off some names of war heroes! I might name my next hamster Sakura (japanese for cherry blossom)

I have 4 siberian and 1 teddy bear hamsters right now. The two older ones are named Caramel-because of her coloring and Hamtaro-from the anime series. They had 4 pups but one died because Caramel panicked and put it inside her mouth.:(
The three pups who lived are named Moja, Mui-mui, and Mushka. All inspired from Loco Roco which is a PSP game.

We named our pet hamster STEWIE because he was the new baby in our family, named after the offspring in “Family Guy” . He wa sour new baby! We think it’s a cool name for our “cool” hamster! He’s a lovely little pet unlike his namesake!
My son actually named our new dwarf hamster. He picked Jordan. At first we were like Jordan? But when we tried other names it didn’t fit him quite like that one. I guess all animals have their certain personality traits the go with the name that is chosen for them. He has won our hearts. I also call him “the baby”.
I inherited my hamster from my sister-in-law(s), there was a new baby in the house and Jen decided she didn’t want to take care of the hamster anymore.
At first when Jen(the older S-I-L)had brought the new Syrian hamster home she named it Gi-Gi. Angie (the younger S-I-L) and I thought that was a bit too girly (though the hamster is indeed a girl) we decided we would give her a “cooler” name, so we picked something a bit different: Hamtaro (Angie is into anime).
Months passed, and the new baby came, and I get to take home the sweetest hamster there is. Hamtaro is actually running in her wheel as I am writing this.

My son just lost his beloved dwarf hamster today, he named her Padme’ because he LOVES Star Wars. He loved her very much, made it just over 2 years.

We named our male hamster Digger. We originally were going to name him Sam, but on our way home, he was constantly digging in the box, and my boyfriend made the comment that we had a “Digger” on our hands…Digger it was!

I had got a hamster from a pet store and she was so big for her age so we named her this Chub-Chub where she was just a little chubby thing. I have another named Chico and one that was suppose to be a girl when I bought it named Ferra ended up changing to Sly for tricking us to think he was a girl. Pet store got it wrong but still love it the same.
I watched Alvin and the Chipmunks while looking after a hamster and we went out and bought one. My fave chipmunk was called Thedore and i thought my hammy was a boy and nicknamed it theo. We soon found that she was a girl and named her Theadosia or Thea for short.
my golden hamster’s name is Bojangles, named after his adopted daddy’s nickname. i then allowed my friends to all add a birth name and this is what we have so far:

My dwarf hampsters name is Lady Gweniver. I call her gweny for short. She is a regual color her father was a cool looking one like leopard print spots. When i first picked her up she nipped me but not hard like a love nibble like she dose now, and when petting her she liek flatened in my hand and I did hte finding nemo thing with the one fish dora when hse was playing wiht the jelly fish adn said I shall call you squishy. And then I said no she is so small and cute she sould have a name that is big yet lady like a refined. and Lady Gweniver poped in my head. I had a Syrian Hamster and after lots of careful thinking, I decided Todge was a cool name. I think it should be a name for a hamster with more brown or black fur. I am not being racist, but when I was at the pet shop, there was a choice between a really light coloured hamster, and a dark coloured one, and it seemed to suit the dark coloured one. I just bought my 13th Dwarf Hamster. I have not named her yet. She’s a White & Tan Campbell w/ Red Eyes. about 4 months old. I havent named her. if any one has any ideas just leave a comment.

My son got a short haired hamster for Christmas. She is brown and white. She had 5 babies the day after Christmas, it was a really big surprise. Her name is Buttercup. We have one baby alive and we are going to keep him. I believe it is a boy. I’ll let you know his name later, he is only two weeks old. Buttercup got her name because she looks like a Buttercup.

I am 10yrs. old and my dad bought me my first hamster. It is a black teddy bear so we named it T-Bear! I love him and take great care of him and play with him every day.
I love all my little furry friends. Aside from my hammies, I also have two guinea pigs (Ellie and Buttercup), along with a chinchilla (Bella). My first hammies name was Tootsie (a nickname for my son). We then adopted two more and named them Biscuit and Butter. We bred Biscuit and Butter and had our first litter. My son thought it would be cute to name them after James Bond characters or films. I loved the thought. So the pups names were Anastasia, Athena, Boris, Fiona, Largo, Michigan, Moonraker, Trevlin and Valentine. Unfortunately, some have passed because of age or illness (tumors). Very sad indeed, but I know my hammies have the very best life and care. Ironically those that passed waited for my arrival home. They spent their final hours in my hands, very warm and very comfortable. It was very sad but also a great feeling to know I made a difference in their lives. I recently purchased two baby hammies and named them Mocha and Cinnamon. They are male and female that I intend to breed. Keeping with the ’spice’ theme and a little bit of reseach on spices, I have chosen the following names for the ‘pups to be’. They are Alpinia, Borage, Chickweed, Dandelion, Elderflower, Figwort, Ginger, Hibiscus, Javitri, Kokam, Lemongrass, Marshmallow, Nutmeg, Orris, Poppy, Rue, Sassafras (my favorite), Tansy, Vasaka, Wasabi and Yomogi. Although their life span is very short, they bring me so much joy. I intend to have hammies for the rest of my life. They are wonderful little pets.

The name I chose for my baby hamster is very unique, I think. When I got him from the petshop on Saturday it was very hot and I was worried about the heat. Not knowing much about hamsters I thought he was going to be fine. When I opened the box at home he was lying on his side and looked dead. It’s a long story, but in a nutshell; he very almost died 3 times since I got him! I decided that Wasabi (the strong hot stuff you get with Sushi) was a perfect name, being so strong! Anita, Johannesburg South Africa.
Our hamster who died last summer was called Hammie, he was called Ruby as we were told he was a girl but then found his (you know what)!! Then Alfie, but the kids ended up with Hammie.
We have a beautiful male now whos 1 years old and hes called Spanner, again was Sam/Sammie but the kids changed it again!!!

My boyfriend got me a teddybear hamster from a pet store. They said it was a female so her name was Lou-Lou for a while. Then we realized she was a he – so hes just Louie now. Hes great, only bit twice the first week we had him, plus hes so soft and full of energy!

My daughters each received a hamster over two years ago. The youngest named her active tan/white hamster Cammie because it camaflouged so well in the chips. The oldest named her delicate gray/white hamster Sisi after the Austrian Emperess. The hamsters even traveled with us to seven U.S. states and Canada. Cammie died today and my youngest daughter would only stop crying after I read to her from her Fairy book. We all miss Cammie. He was a very special dwarf hamster!
I named my 1st female hamster Gilly. I don’t know why. I just,… hose it. Gilly died last yesr. And I got a new one that is a female. I named her California. Or Cali for short. I chose that name because she looked like a California girl. Her middle name is Marie. I think that seems just right for her.
I’m Debbie’s daughter mentioned in comment #92. I named my hamster after Empress Elisabeth of Austria, whose nickname was Sisi. Because of my dad’s job at that time, we were able to go many places together as a family. I had recently came back from a trip to Austria at the time I recieved Sisi. I was in like, 10 at the time, and very into European History. So I solemly named her Sisi
I thought it was a truly respectable thing to name a hamster after an empress. LOL.
However, there was never a hamster more worthy of a “royal” name.
She was the best of friends with my sister’s hamster Cammy. They would always snuggle together. We loved our hamsters. They were cute and oh so soft and tiny (they were dwarf hamsters.) Sisi was calm and cute and so nice, she never bit anyone. She died today, just a few days after Cammy. Cammy lived a long and happy life (2 1/2 years) I’m 13 now, and will miss her dearly. However, I’m glad for all the good times we had together. What sweet (and squeaky 
memories.
When I got my first two hamsters (one boy, one girl) my mom, sister, and I sat there thinking up famous pairs to name them. They got Bonnie and Clyde. When Bonnie passed away, we got Penny, my mom’s idea because she wanted something two syllabled(sp?) and ending with an ‘ee’ sound. Then Penny died last month and just yesterday I got Keenu. I wanted a K to go with my C. Also… It was fun. (Real name starts with a C. My handle/alter ego starts with a K.) Keenu is mostly derived from Kurureenu for some odd reason. XD Then their nicknames ended up Clyde-o-scope and Keenu-na-baby. x)

My son named our hamsters. He was almost 3 when we got our first and he named her “french fry”, around 6 months later we got a second one (he was caged separately) and for some reason my son named him “kitty-kitty”.
We have other critters and their names are just about as fun if not more so!!!!!!

i just got my dwarf hamster, and i named her Bella. it just seemed to fit her! other good names are oreo, cupcake,monster(if its a really small one),muffin, blake, fluffy,and zora.
My Hamsters name came to me when I saw her,Because she is a cream colour anad my friend said “make it an origanal name” I thought ‘Foothy’, because she is a cream colour so its like froth from a drink!!!!!!!!

We named our hamster “Peggy”. That was short for “Peg Leg”, as she only had 3 feet. One foot was nipped off by a sibling when she was very young and not ready to leave the mother.
I have hamster which I named Yogo because when she sleeps, she curls up in a ball just like an over-sized yogo candy!I would’ve gotten a second hamster, but if I did, I need another cage and another everything! That’ll cost alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!
hello i got a hamster like 2 days ago its a light golden coloured its 1 month old
i didn’t know what to call it but my dad suggested Danielle i liked it but it didnt suit it, so my mum suggested Lacey because it chewed laces alot but it didnt sound right
so my sister chose one it was okaii but still no, Amber then i came up of a brilliant name i called it Sammy i know you guys think it wasn’t suitable for it but i think it suit it so they were okay wih that i had it for a long time till it reached the age of 6 and a half it died on march 13th
then i got another one i called it right away it was a bot thi time and my dad did say danielle for the girl so i decided to call it danni for short of danielle so that kept me happy for a great good of while

My first hamster was adopted from Petco. He was one and a half years old when I got him. His name was Stuart. His last 7 months he lived like a King. I was working when he passed to the big wheel in sky. I was very sad. He was a cool dude. My second hamster was a baby when I got him. He’s now 16 months old. His name is Jammer J. I have to tape his ball when he runs or excape from it. And smart too. I swear he knows his name.

On New Years Day last year I got a Siberian Dwarf hamster. I named her Ginger Snapp, but sadly, she died on New Years Day this year. I’m geting a new hamster tomorow, it’s a Dwarf hamster, and he’s really fuzzy and black. Anyone have sugestions for a name?
my first hamster i named hector..idk how i decided on that name..he was brown and white and blind in one eye because of a fight with another hamster. my sister also had one named cinnamon..we never knew itsgender though..the we got twins socks and mittens…socks was black and had white feet..mittens was white and tan…one evening mittens killed his brother socks and three days later he himself died..we think he was guilty having killed his brother…and then there was sweet little nutmeg!

My first hamster was called HOVIS. I named her that cause she was more brown than white… like the bread! That was 25 years ago!!! I saw a glowing neon sign that said “SUSHI”, I made a comment on how I love sushi and my sister, being the clown she is said, “Why don’t you name your hamster that?”.
