How Did You Name Your Guinea Pigs?

I am absolutely the worst at picking pet names. When I hear what others have named their pets I am always amazed at how clever some people are with names, or touched by how well people match up their names with their pets' personalities. And I'm always interested in whether people have names ready when their pets come home, or whether they wait to get a glimpse of what their pets are like before they name them. For me, I always seem to get stuck on names that I have associated with pets I have known, like the guinea pigs Gus and Gizmo. I stopped collecting pet names for a while because I couldn't keep up, but I miss seeing how you all are naming your pets, so I'd like to get started again by having you share your guinea pigs' names by adding them to the comments section below. Feel free to note how you chose names too! Eventually, I hope to find time to compile all these names to update the master list of Guinea Pig Names, too. Let's keep it to guinea pigs for now; every week I'll start a new post for different kinds of pets. So let's get by sharing names for guinea pigs here!

I named my guinea pig Ripley as he has a rip on his left ear.
We recently adopted a Guinea Pig for our 15 year old son, Wes. He named her “Chocolate”, because she is light brown, very dark brown, and white - all 3 types of chocolate; Milk, Dark, & White, lol!
I have three guinea pigs. Lily (short for Tiger Lily), Doodles (short for snickerdoodles) and Kiwi. We’ve also had Piggers, Munchers, Charlotte (from Charlotte’s Web and Pigpen.
we named our piggies Gilbert and Stella

I have two female guinea pigs.
One is named Liz-I call her Lizzie Liz [after a Tulane University volleyball player] and the other is G Gee-G for short [named after my favorite Tulane baseball player].
I have a beautiful Peruvian guinea pig with a mohawk hairdo! I named her Guinevere.
Have had many, however our current boy is “Tank”; simply named by my son because he was the the biggest of the litter.
I named one of my guinea pigs “Who’zit” ’cause she’s a long-hair and sometimes it’s difficult to tell front from rear.
I have 2 boys, 3 girls- Dino, Charlie, Zoe, Comet and Francie.
My 13 year old son chose a red guinea pig. While he was thinking of a name he got out out thesaurus and looked up red. He came up with Caldron which is a shade of red and sounds like a wizards name. (He simply loves playing fantasy games!)
I had a black longhair I named Alfalfa after the little rascals character. Another black one I named Inky and his made was a tortoise shell I called Clementine.
my guinia pig’s name is chester. he is a cute light-brown color w/a white forehead.
My current piggie is named Half Pint. He is half white and half cream colored so a friend of mine came up with his name.

we have a black guniea pig named licorice
I named my 1 year old sheltie female Jordan as I was looking for a long haired blonde for my red and white abasinion called John. She is now known as Mrs whiffy after her marrage. We have a blue grey male called Oscar Handbag, and a buff male called Pumpkin carrot sticks the 3rd earl of hay. Two female agutis Kizzy and Lilly.
My guinea pig is white with some black and I named her “Harmony.” My mom calls her “Piggie”.
we named ours Matel and Mocha. Our first ginnypig who died, we named her Cupcake.
We named our guinea pigs flower and bun bun.
Flower was because she loved to eat flowers, shy like flower in story of bambi.
Bun Bun because she hopped like a rabbit, and sorta looked like a rabbit.
My daughters had picked out the names.
i have a black an white guinea pig that i named Isabella, Bella for short, and my friend has a piggy name ruggy becasue of his ears are rugged at the tips
We adopted 3, 2 year old sister guinea pigs from our local shelter last fall. They love to “sing” in harmony, so we named them after the “Dixie Chicks”. There is Natalie, the outgoing one, Marty the comical one, & Emily the shy one.
Sadly, we lost Emily, so now we only have the duet.
My albino long haired 3 year old female was Vivian and I changed it to ClaraBelle because she looks like a Clare and a Blelle.Mu 3 year old brown white and black female is Tina because she came with that name when I adopted her.
i have 6 guinea pigs….and 1 died.today is my birthday and im going to buy another one….can you give me a nice name for a girl guinea pig??

we named our piggie sid b/c he looks like a skunk so, pig and skunk = punk and a famous punk was sid vicious and there you go
We named our piggy, Gypsy. It just seemed like a cool name for a cool piggy.
My guinea pigs name is Funyuns! I’m not sure what type of guinea pig he is but he’s not medium length hair and it has some swirls in it. its not really short hair but not long either.
We have 8 rescue piggies,our local shelter has no place to keep small exotics,if a home is not found, they are, sadly, euthanised. I happened to be hunting 1 or 2 for my children as pets.Wound up taking home 4. 5 weeks later, we had 8. 1 was unbeknownst to us pregnant at the time we saved her. Their names are:Alfie:Blackie:Calleigh:Chirpy Chirples:Jillie:Nillie:Nipper:and Sir Squeky Squeeker. Calleigh had 4 babies, all male and all solid Black.All of our males live harmoniously together; Nillie & Jillie are female and live harmoniously togrther;Calleigh doesn’t get along with the other females, so my husband devised a huge Guinea Pig House that allows Calleigh to see the Babies and Chirpy Chirples without any chance of accidenyally having more piggies. Many people do not know that a feale should not be bred after 6-7 months because she and the babies will die because their pelvic bones have fused together by that age. We Love All Of Our Piggies!
Taffy and cocoa. cocoa looks like an albino that was thrown in cocoa power he has red eyes and a white stripe on her face nad a white leg, and taffy just because he was so sweet. We thout they where females but there are males.
I currently have 4 piggies. 3 females and 1 male. Aleena (name came from a Barbie Movie)she is a 2 year old brown and white abyssinian. Macie (had name when we adopted her)she is a little over 2 years old she is a brown and white abyssinian, and the mother to Aleena. Gingersnap or Nap (had name when we adopted her) aprox. 2 years old is a white and cream colored long haired Peruvian. The (neutered) man of the bunch is Bandit appx. 2 year old all white with black around each eye (this is how he got his name) had no name when we rescued him, he is a abyssinian. We had 2 other piggies in the past who have since passed away. Annaka (named from a Barbie movie) she was all white with red eyes an abyssinian, was 1 1/2 years old she died from a rapid growing tumor - we did have it removed but she lived only 3 days after surgery. Lucy (had name when we rescued her) was apx. 5-6 years old. Dark golden colored English female. Passed of old age.

I named my piggy Boog after the bear on the animated movie “Open Seaon” because he is chubby but just soooo cute and luvable.
I have two guniea pigs and their name are Isaw and Diga. Well ther are rossette in type but unfortunately one does not have enough hair so we call her “Isaw” meaning intestines in our local tongue. She is somewhat similar to the intestines. The other one having a lot of hair, we call her “Diga” form Dig Her from the bunch of hair.

I have a tortoiseshell female guinea pig called Licky (short for Liquorice). Her full name is Liquorice Sioux (she has one black foot and the Sioux were sometimes called the blackfoot indians)Squeak-squeak (you can guess why!)Allsorts. My mum calls her Black-eyes.

Well, i named my guinea pig Jumper because when she was a baby she would jump around like crazy. now she jumps on top of her box that she sleeps in.
i called another one Snowy because she was snow white but she lost her whiteness after a while.

I have 3 male guinea pigs, right now, Butterscotch, Bumblebee, and Linus.
Linus was our first piggy, and was all white. We thought he was a girl and got him around Eastertime, so we named him Lily. When we took him to the vet we found out “she” was a boy, so he needed a new name. My husband is a peanuts fan, and little Linus was hiding in his big new cage, with his new blue fleece lining, so Linus just fit. He liked his blue fleece!
Bumblebee and Butterscotch were adopted brothers, previously named Spike, and Micheal I think. These names really didn’t seem to fit them. Bumblebee, was always wheeking, and annoying the other larger piggies, so he was named after Bumblebee on the Transformers animated TV show who is always talking and annoying the other bigger transformers. He also has this really funny habbiat of eeking with each step he takes.
Butterscotch piggy almost got himself named Goliath when he was first introduced to Linus. He puffed himself up as big as he could go. Initially he got named Butterscotch because the brown part of his white and brown fur is the color of butterscotch, and also because I was slightly mad at him and I don’t like Butterscotch. He’s turned out to be the sweetest piggie though who loves to be petted.
When I was in grade school we had guinea pigs to. Their names included Speeder, Squeaker, Copper, Marshmallow, Mini-marshmallow (marshmallow’s baby who looked exactly like her, all white with little mohawks), Mr. Spot, Brownie (Marshmallows baby with black and brown), Cherry (he was also marshmallow’s white baby with red eyes), Oreo (marshmallows baby with white and black), Penny, and Moesha. Moesha was named after the Brandy show at the time and called Moe Moe for short. She was a little abyasian with lots of little mohawks, so it fit.
We also had a guinea pig named Bunny, because we let my mother name him, and we got him on easter. So he was named after the easter bunny, by my mom who hadn’t wanted us to get another guinea pig.
I had two female piggies and decided on a name before I got them - Mocha and Latte. Mocha was bigger and bossier, while Latte was shy and preferred to run back into the cage than spend time with me. They learned to not pee on me and as soon as they were back in their cage, they would pee instantly. That always impressed me. Sadly, Latte passed away Jan 2nd 2004, while Mocha passed away on July 3rd 2005.
i named my last two piggies Reno and Ice because of their colors. but now im stuck on what to name my new boy who is brown and a white strip on his forhead n his hair on his forehead goes every which way.
In the class i work at we have a black boy with a white stripe named Oreo and we are getting a new one named Chester. He is golden tan. we are thinking about renaming him to Pudgey or Nilla. IDK…he is adorable though!
I have three guinea pigs currently. A peruvian, short-hair, and abbysinian. I am still looking for a name for my abbysinian, my my peruvian’s name is Chloe, my short-hair’s name is desi (short for desira, my favorite name), and i was thinking about naming my abbysinian izzy, short for isabella!
I am 12 and my mum and I have 2 beautiful piggys, Guin(real name Angel) and Gemmy(Gemma).We got guin from our cousins because they breed, but when she was a few days old she got stepped on, and started bleeding from the nose and ears. Luckily my Aunty is a nurse, and saved Guin from a possible death.We called her Angel because it was a miracle that she survived. Guin is now 4 and a bit,but thanks to brain damage from being stepped on, she doesnt have as long a life as a normal piggy.We got Gemmy 3 days before christmas last year.As well as buying her for a companian for Guin,we are also using her as a breeeding pig.She is now a week from giving birth with her first litter.

mine is named super gordon beacause i had a drem that my dad had a piggie named that.
We have a short hair named Linny after the “Wonder Pets” guinea pig (our two year old named him) and we got our Abyssinian about two months ago. Our daughter named him as well. She kept saying “Fedder.” (which the first thing that crept to mind was Kevin Federline…lol.) It took me a minute to realize she was saying “Feather.”
But honestly we end up calling them by silly nicknames more than their real ones. Linny is “Mr. Pigginsworth”; “Bilbo Piggins”; and “Linnerwood.” And Feather?

I named mine Peggy. I loved the name puggy as she is quite fat but I did not think that was lady like for a girl so Peggy it is.

I got a piggy this year and I named him snickers cause he had dark chocklote head and tail and a carmel middle. He looked just like a snickers bar. I had him for about 5 months and then he died I was very upset

I named my guinea pig Chester Barnabus Hammington, or Chester for short. I got him the day after my grandfather’s funeral; my grandfather’s middle name was supposed to be Chester, but the nurse that filled out his certificate messed up and stated his middle name as ‘Junior’. I thought it would be a fitting tribute, as my grandfather loved animals and was always willing to take in strays and rescue dogs. The rest of Chester’s name is just whimsy, since he always looks quite dignified in a ridiculous way.
Charlie, Lola, Emily, Brownie, and Professer Snuggles are my ideas for guinea pig names,
I had a guinea pig that recently died and I named her button, like cute as a button.
My guinea pig’s name is MooLatte. He is chocolate brown with a white puff of hair on this head. The brown coloring and white puff makes him look like a little coffee drink.
I have one guinea pig now named Peanut, she was so little she just kind of looked like one. They we got three more and named them Cashew, Walnut and my sister named hers Bree, after a movie character.
I just got my first guneia pig today. I have been wanting one for a long time. I always pick human names for my animals and the tag on a stupid one. I love the name Madison and call her Maddie, so that became her first name. Then in the car coming home she kept burping (no she wasnt swealing) so I called her Piglet. Now her name is Madison Piglet and we call her Maddie.

i have 6 guinea pigs honey,dash,lilly, speghetti,tiger and crunchie. honey was named after his colours, dash was named dash because she was a very fast runner, lilly was the mother of every guinean pig i owend she was called lillly because it was the first name that came to my head, speghetti the 4th girl was named speghetti because it was very whrigly and it was the only long haired in the litters, tiger was named tiger because of his stripes on his back and crunchie has a nick name and a name his nickname is honey 2 and his real name is crunchie because he looked like a crunchie bar!!.

Our Guinea Pig’s name is Mocha because of his coloring - a rich brown, mocha color. We also call him Mocha Latte because up at the very top of his head he has a puff of pure white fur, sticking straight up - like a dab of whipped cream in a latte!
I have 4 piggies, the boars are Mikey Tubeculosis Blacksaber or Mikey, the other is Basco. The sows are Joceline, and the little sow is called plun-plun.

I got a baby male, short shiny black furred guinea pig. At first I thought of Jet. (for his coloring). Then because they are so round and don’t seem to have much of a neck, I decided on Buddha. (will also remind me to meditate). I try to name something exotic, cute, gender, color behavior related with animals/exotics. Or just plain old spontaneously.(How Buddha came to me one night).
Hi we have a male guinea pig approximately 6 weeks old and he’s so adorable. He has shaggy light brown and white fur. He’s very happy and already makes noises when he hears his food being poured or hears the water running. He squeaks too when he hears the fridge door open because usually he gets a carrot treat. We named him TIKI because we didnt know the sex right away so we chose a unisex name. I thought id share this name for your list.
Over Christmas my family went to a Zoo in Maryland. Our daughter liked this animal called a Capybara, so when we got home and went to the petstore, she named her guinea pig Capybara (Capy for short)

my pigs name is Sydney, after Sydney Crosby because my pig has a round shape on his ear and it is black like a hockey puck.

My guinea pig is named Aubrie.. After my “twin” whose name is Briana, Bri for short, and so Aubrie often gets called Brie or BrieBrie for short

I named my guinea pig Captain Planet. My girlfriend helped me brainstorm names. It was originally going to be a stand-in until we thought of something better…but even that came after a good 15 minutes of brainstorming. We just call him C.P.
…I guess it’s better than “Dilda”…that was my bunny’s ’stand-in’…now it’s permanent.
….ahhh well….
Our newly acquired tri-colored guinea pig is named Ophelia.
It’s a perfect name for dramatical flair. Now, if I can only keep my oldest daughter from putting those annoying little goth pigtails on Ophelia…..

My piggies are named Burrows and Scofield after the brothers in Prison Break because they escaped from somewhere and were found grazing on my lawn. They were really hard to catch! Loads more have escaped with nobody looking for them so we had to inform the RSPCA. After they got boys names it turned out that they were both pregnant females who had 8 healthy piglets between them!

Iwould like to share my lil girls name with you, her name is Samantha Pig,
I have two: Houdini and Bess. Hairy Houdini got his name because when we first got him he would always just disappear to reappear somewhere else only to disappear again! And Bess(y) got her name because she was Harry Houdini’s wife.
I used to have a guinea pig called Serenity (she was so calm), I also have one called Geri Hellewell (she can sing much better than her namesake). My husband still owes a guinea pig called Floormop (she looks like one) and Grazyna (my Polish penpals name). We have got a Albino Agouti called Snowy who is a Funky, Hunky, Punky Pig.
I have two female guinea pigs, the first one I called Fluffy because her hair sticks straight out. The other I called Mimi because I think its so cute!

My piggies died a couple days ago, sadly. They were 2 boys names Popcorn and Squeakers, for obvious reasons. We just got 2 little girls, and can’t think of anything to name them. All of my pets have been boys. A chinchilla named Rocket, and a dwarf hamster named The Master, after Doctor Who. My first guinea pig came with the name Little Brian, but as it was summer didn’t fancy going up the garden calling that so he is now LB. Two new arrivals are aRTi, and JayCee, using my partners and my own initials.
My guinea pig’s name is Einstein. We named him based on his personality. He is quite active and sports a wacky hair style! Just like Albert Einstein.
I have three new guinea pig girls and I named them based on two of my favorite shows, Grays Anatomy and Desperate Housewives and on their appearances. My guinea pigs are 2 girls named Nimble C. Starr and Nightwing I. Starr. Nimble, mine and the oldest, is also called NimNim and Nimmy. Nightwing, my little sister’s, is named that because she has brown spots on her head that look like angel wings, and the I stands for Inquisitive. We got Nimmy 1st and she loves to climb (thus Nimble), C is Curious because she is, and her last name is Starr because a) she is one and b) she’s mostly black with orange and white spots. Nightwing + Nimble are adopted sisters so the last name is the same with both of the guinea pigs. So for names think of the guinea pig’s qualities and put them into a name! It’s actually very easy and mine came to me right after we got her. Still, my sister wanted to know what everybody at school thought so hers took her about a week, even though the name was already picked out, and the poor pig was kept waiting… Ah, well. Nobody’s perfect. BUT OUR GUINEA PIGS ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am twelve and i have a five year old cousin who lives next door. i was babysitting her one day cause her mom and dad were eatin somewhere, and she made me watch her shows with her. one of the shows sh made me watch was called wow wow wubzzy, and i thought wubzzy was the most darlin name. the next day i asked my mom if i could have a guinea pig and she said yeah. so i named her wubzzy.
