When feeding guinea pigs, one of the most important things to consider is that guinea pigs need vitamin C in their diet to prevent scurvy. They, like us, are unable to manufacture their own vitamin C -- most other animals have this ability. Anyway, a good quality pellet combined with a good variety of fresh greens and vegetables is often enough to supply the vitamin C requirements of adult guinea pigs. If you do want to supplement, vitamin C tablets are a good way to provide vitamin C, and more reliable than adding vitamin C to the water. Find out how to best supply a good diet and enough vitamin C in Feeding Guinea Pigs.
