Chinchillas and Cats

"I have a cat -- can I get a chinchilla?" was a question I received via email. My answer was somewhat non-committal since it depends an awful lot on the cat, but it is possible (with caution and care, especially initially), as explained in my answer to the question of Chinchillas and Cats coexisting peacefully.
