The Unique Axolotl

Sunday August 3, 2008
The first time I saw an axolotl I though it looked like some sort of aquatic alien life form. Actually, axolotls are simply unusual salamanders in that they typically live their whole life and reproduce in the larval form. They are entirely aquatic in the larval form and their external gills are what give them their unique appearance. They are studied for their ability to regenerate lost limbs, and they make pretty good pets, too. Read more about axolotls and their care.
