A Reader Asks: Can I Keep Fire Bellied Toads and Fire Bellied Newts in the Same Tank?

fire bellied newtOn the surface, it may appear that fire bellied toads and fire bellied newts could share a tank as they have relatively similar needs (except that the toads need a good sized land area and the newts need lots of water). However, as with most other species, mixing these species is not a good idea, as explained in my answer to this question. In this case the results are pretty predictable, but generally it is a bad idea to mix species in a vivarium situation as putting species together in close quarters can have unpredictable and disastrous results.
