Can Owls be Kept as Pets?

Follow me on:

Harry Potter Mania is in full swing, with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (the fifth movie) in theaters and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (the seventh and final book), due out soon. While I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter book series, the messenger/pet owls in the books seem to have inspired a few inquiries about keeping owls as pets. This is definitely not a unique phenomenon, as this sort of interest in pets often arises with popular movies, television shows, and books. Thankfully, it is not easy to run out and get owls, so there is not a surge in owl ownership after each "Harry Potter" release, but it is important to remember that owls would not normally behave like Hedwig and her colleagues and are not good pets. Fun on the Side: if you are a fan of Harry Potter, you might want to give Denise's Harry Potter Mega Quiz a try. And, if you are a fan like me, you might want to find a Harry Potter Book 7 Release Party to celebrate/
