Fun Time: ID This Snake

Thursday August 24, 2006
I was sent this picture of a snake. It was found and given to somebody who wrote in asking for help on how to care for their new friend. I thought it would be interesting to put it out here and ask for other's opinions on the species. If you think you know what sort of snake this is, leave a comment by clicking on the comment link below. A larger photo can be found here.

I think it’s an aneuthrystic, mottled corn snake, elaphe gutatta (sp?). The pics not good enough for me to be sure, but it’s my best guess. ;-}

I am nor quite sure what kind of snake it is. But it would sure live long if you bring it back to the wild where it could reunite with its own kind. It will be very pleased if only it could talk. The zoo is another option.

It has the characteristic pattern of a gopher snake(pituophus catenifer). I have handled many of these in the wild and own an albinistic one.
