Mantids as Pets

Mantids, commonly known as praying mantids or mantises, are interesting creatures. They are carnivorous, feeding mainly on other flying insects, which has led to them being sold to gardeners as biological control of insect pests. They also make interesting pets, which are fairly easy to care for (and a short-lived commitment). However, there are numerous species and while the care of all mantids is similar, you must know which species you are getting in order to meet their heat and humidity needs. Find out more about the basics of pet mantid care and some resources for finding species-specific care sheets in "Mantids as Pets". As always, check your local laws before deciding on a mantid as a pet as they may be illegal where you are.
Mantid trivia: mantids are closely related to cockroaches.
